Hi, my name is Maryjo Saliba.

I am 23 years of age and last year I finished studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Deakin University which stemmed from my life experience that started with a cancer diagnosis at the age of twelve. After fighting cancer for nine months through different treatments I survived but, only a short month after, my brother James was also diagnosed with the same cancer. 

 

James fought bravely for almost three years but unfortunately, he lost his battle to cancer in February 2015. After chemotherapy, radiation and many operations James entered palliative care at the Royal Children's Hospital where he was supported by an amazing team of doctors and nurses.

 

After a long hard journey I decided to volunteer my time with various different charities as a way of giving back which has been a very rewarding experience in my life so far.
